How to choose a detailer or valeter in Aberystwyth and Mid Wales
Fixed and mobile across a wide, rural map
The Aberystwyth and Mid Wales map covers eight areas, from the coast at Aberystwyth and Tregaron across to Newtown, Welshpool, Llandrindod Wells, Knighton, Brecon and Builth Wells. Confirmed detailers and valeters are not spread evenly across it: Welshpool & Montgomery (five) and Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader & Knighton (four) are the two best-covered areas, together accounting for nine of the fifteen businesses on this page, while Machynlleth & Llanidloes and Aberaeron & New Quay have no confirmed detailer at all, and Borth & Tregaron and Brecon & Builth Wells have one each - Jenkins Detailing & Valeting in Tregaron, and JM Auto Care working out of Brecon. If you're in one of the thinner areas, expect to call further afield or rely on a mobile business willing to travel to you.
Fixed premises
Eleven of the fifteen businesses here work from a fixed address rather than travelling to you.
- CH Valeting & Detailing and Hydro Clean, both on the Glan Yr Afon Industrial Estate in Llanbadarn Fawr on the edge of Aberystwyth.
- Jenkins Detailing & Valeting, at Rose Garage in Tregaron, specialising in paint correction and multi-year ceramic coating packages.
- S & G Valeting, on Violet Close in Newtown.
- The Valet Man, MCV Mobile Car Valeting and Mid-Wales Valeting, three separate fixed valeting businesses in Welshpool, plus Lt Detail in nearby Llanymynech.
- Mats Auto Detailing, on the Ddole Road industrial estate, and Auto Pro Glow Valeting & Detailing, both working out of Llandrindod Wells (Auto Pro Glow also markets into Builth Wells from the same base).
- V A Duggan, on Presteigne Road in Knighton.
Mobile
Four come to you rather than the other way round: Enrich Valets, covering Newtown and the surrounding Powys area seven days a week; Mobile Steam Car Wash & Valeting, working out of a residential base in Welshpool; K.W Valeting, based in Knighton with a published price list and a £15 travel surcharge over 20 miles; and JM Auto Care, a family-run operation covering Brecon and the surrounding area.
What the research could confirm, and what it couldn't
Only one business here, Auto Pro Glow Valeting & Detailing, has a confirmed trading history, since 2012. Three of the fifteen businesses on this page show a Google rating, each linked to the business's own Google Maps listing with at least three reviews. One more, The Valet Man in Welshpool, has a Google listing with fewer than the three reviews needed to show one, and for the other eleven no Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp page could be confirmed, so none is shown; ask to see reviews directly when you call rather than relying on a number you can't check yourself.
Eight of the fifteen - Enrich Valets, S & G Valeting, MCV Mobile Car Valeting, Mid-Wales Valeting, Mobile Steam Car Wash & Valeting, Lt Detail, V A Duggan and JM Auto Care - rest on a single online listing rather than the business's own website, so it's worth ringing first to check they're still trading and that the address or coverage area given is still current before you plan around it.
Questions worth asking before you book
- Fixed premises or mobile - and if mobile, do they bring their own water and power, or do they need yours?
- Is the quote for a valet, or does it include paint correction or a ceramic coating first? Jenkins Detailing & Valeting's published coating packages, £250 for three years and £350 for five, only make sense once any correction work has been done and paid for separately.
- If you're in Machynlleth, Llanidloes, Aberaeron or New Quay, where no detailer could be confirmed, ask a business in a neighbouring area, such as Welshpool, Aberystwyth or Tregaron, whether they travel that far, and what a call-out adds to the price.
- For any of the eight businesses resting on a single online listing, confirm the phone number still connects and ask when they can fit you in, rather than assuming the listing is current.
