How to choose a detailer or valeter in Cardiff

Fixed sites, mobile valeters, and where they cluster

This directory lists 37 confirmed car detailers, valeters and car washes across Cardiff and the towns just outside it: Cardiff city centre and Cathays, Canton and Grangetown, Roath and Penylan, Llanishen and Whitchurch, Ely and Fairwater, Penarth and Barry, Caerphilly, and Newport. Coverage is uneven: Ely and Fairwater has only two confirmed businesses, Cardiff city centre and Cathays and Llanishen and Whitchurch three each, Canton and Grangetown six and Roath and Penylan five, while Penarth and Barry has seven and Newport eight. Most listed here, 29 of the 37, work from a fixed address — a garage forecourt, an industrial unit or a dedicated bay — rather than travelling to you; the other eight are mobile operators who come to your driveway or workplace, including Car Valet Cardiff and Sirius Detailing in the city centre, Ison Mobile Valeting Services in Ely, Motor Valets, R M Mobile Valeting and Vale Valeting around Penarth and Barry, and Pure Shine Mobile Valeting Detailing in Newport.

• Studio-based detailing, rather than a quick wash, is confirmed at one address here: Scene Clean Valeting and Detailing's purpose-built studio on the Station Approach Industrial Estate in Penarth, which lists paint protection film, paint correction, alloy wheel refurbishment and vehicle storage alongside general valeting.
• Multi-site car washes trading under the same name appear five times in this file as Arc Car Wash — in Grangetown (Ferry Road), Roath, Caerphilly and twice in Newport (NP19 and NP20) — each a separately confirmed address with its own phone number rather than one business covering the whole city.
• Everyone else, the majority of the list, is a small, single-site valeting or car-wash business known mainly by name, address and phone number, with little more published about what a visit involves.

What we could and couldn't confirm

Only two businesses, Sirius Detailing and Motor Valets, publish a price list (see the prices guide for this town). Only one, Scene Clean Valeting and Detailing, lists a trade accreditation — Gyeon Quartz Certified Detailer status, plus Matrix Black and SunTek authorised-installer status. Six businesses have their own website confirming their services directly: Car Valet Cardiff, Sirius Detailing, Scene Clean Valeting and Detailing, Motor Valets, Danko Detailing and Western Motors. No business in this Cardiff file carries an independently verifiable rating from Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp; one business's own Facebook page states a high recommend rate from a number of reviews, but that isn't used as a rating source here, so none is shown for it or for anyone else. Sixteen of the thirty-seven businesses rest on a single online listing rather than their own website or social page, so it's worth ringing first to check a business is still trading, still at that address, and still doing the work you want before assuming the listing is current.

Questions worth asking before you book

• Fixed premises or mobile — and if mobile, does the valeter bring their own water and power, or do they need yours?
• Is the quote for a wash and protect, or does it include machine paint correction first? Only Scene Clean Valeting and Detailing and Motor Valets confirm correction work here; ask any other business directly whether they offer it.
• For a fixed hand car wash or valeting bay: is it walk-in, or do you need to book ahead, and how long will the car need to be left?
• If you're in Ely and Fairwater, Cardiff city centre and Cathays, or Llanishen and Whitchurch, where confirmed businesses are fewest, ask a mobile operator based elsewhere in the city whether they cover your postcode.
• For any of the five Arc Car Wash sites, confirm which specific address you're booking, since more than one site trades under the same name in this area.
