How to choose a detailer or valeter in Derby
Studio, mobile, or hand car wash
Derby's detailers and valeters cluster heavily around the city centre, Alvaston and Boulton area, which has thirteen confirmed businesses, and around Chaddesden, which has seven. Littleover has five, Ilkeston two, and Allestree, Belper and Spondon one each. Mickleover, a large Derby suburb, has no confirmed detailing or valeting business at all in this research; a mobile operator based elsewhere in Derby may still cover it, so it's worth asking when you call one of the city-centre or Littleover-based businesses whether they reach you there.
- Fixed studios and workshops take the car off the road for a few hours and tend to focus on correction, coatings and protection rather than a quick wash: J.R Detailing's dedicated unit and ATD VAS's Gtechniq-approved facility, both on or near Osmaston Road, Velocity Detailing's PPF and ceramic-coating unit near Melbourne, and Detailing and Training Centre's climate-controlled studio in Ilkeston, which also runs training courses for the trade.
- Mobile detailers and valeters come to your driveway or workplace: TGS Detailing, EMobile Valeting and Eco Mobile Car Valeting, all based in or around Derby itself, TTCV's Derby round (one branch of a wider East Midlands operation run from Allestree), PS Valeting & Detailing around Ilkeston, Stanley and Stanley Common, and Dan S Mobile Car Valeting off Marlborough Road.
- Fixed hand car wash suits a regular clean rather than correction work: Chadds Hand Car Wash and USA Hand Car Wash in Chaddesden, Orange Hand Car Wash and Osmaston Hand Car Wash in the city centre, The Best Hand Car Wash in Darley Abbey, and Arc Car Wash, which runs two sites, on Osmaston Road and at the Kwik-Fit West Meadows Industrial Estate.
AE Professional Car Valeting in Belper and Bysh Valeting Services in Chaddesden both advertise machine polishing or ceramic coating on top of a standard valet, without a published price list to compare against the studio-based businesses above.
What the credentials found here mean
None of these is a legal requirement to detail a car, but each shows something about the training or track record behind the work.
- Gtechniq-approved installer: ATD VAS on Osmaston Road, offering EXOv5 Hybrid, Crystal Serum Light and CSL Black ceramic coating tiers.
- Trinity Lifetime accredited installer: TGS Detailing, which includes the ceramic coating as standard in its full detail rather than as an add-on.
- Longer trading history: Bysh Valeting Services since 1989, TTCV (formerly Allan's Autocare) run by founder Allan Thorley for around 25 years, and AE Professional Car Valeting advertising over 19 years.
- Independently verifiable ratings: 15 of the 30 businesses in this directory now carry a dated rating, linked to the original review page next to their name and checked in September 2026 — 14 on Google, and J.R Detailing still the one on Trustpilot, at 4.4 from 11 reviews. USA Hand Car Wash (496 reviews, 4.1) now carries the largest review count here, ahead of The Best Hand Car Wash (203 reviews, 4.5) and Velocity Detailing (200 reviews, 4.8). The other 15 have none we could verify, so ask to see reviews directly rather than relying on the number alone.
Questions worth asking before you book
- Fixed premises or mobile, and if mobile, does the detailer bring their own water and power, or do they need yours?
- Is the quote for a wash and protect, or does it include machine paint correction first? Correction takes longer and costs more, and a coating over unclipped swirls will not look any better than the paint underneath.
- For a hand car wash: is it walk-in, and which of a business's sites (where it runs more than one, like Arc Car Wash) is closest to you?
- Many listings here rest on a single directory entry rather than the business's own website, including Chadds Hand Car Wash, Glenn Valet, Waterless Detailers Derby, Carvalet.co.uk, DG Valeting Services, N and M Valeting, Mr Miyagi Vehicle Detailers, Dan S Mobile Car Valeting, Arc Car Wash and H2O Car Valeting. Ring first to check the business is still trading and current before assuming the listing is accurate.
- If you're in Mickleover, where no dedicated business was found, ask a city-centre or Littleover-based mobile operator directly whether they cover your postcode before booking.
