How to choose a detailer or valeter in Greenwich and south-east London

Studio, garage, hand car wash, or mobile

Across the eight areas covered here, real fixed detailing studios are rare: only Meridian Auto Care in Charlton and Bellissimoto in Bermondsey run a dedicated paint-correction and ceramic-coating studio, with Enhanced Detailing in Woolwich offering a similar menu from a unit on the Submarine Cable Depot estate. Rodney Garage in Forest Hill is a servicing, MOT and bodywork garage first, and its valeting service sits alongside that core business rather than being its main trade – worth knowing if you want a specialist detailer rather than a garage valet. The rest of the list is hand car wash yards (AVS Camberwell, Camberwell Car Wash, Ocontinental, Shine Peckham Hand Car Wash, Diamond Dulwich Car Wash, East Dulwich Hand Car Wash, Sydenham Hand Car Wash & Valet Centre, Robin Hood Car Service Centre, Go Car Wash Charlton and Lux Brothers Car Wash) and mobile valeters who come to you (D C Valeting in Forest Hill, Auto-Wash in Anerley, Car Tec in Plumstead, and two unrelated businesses both trading as Professional Car Cleaning, one based in Thamesmead and one in Walworth – check you have the right one for your side of the river).

What the credentials found here mean

  • Gtechniq and Kamikaze ceramic coatings, XPEL paint protection film: Bellissimoto, trading from Bermondsey for more than 13 years.
  • Bosch Car Service member and DVSA-approved MOT centre: Rodney Garage, family-run since 1991, so a valet can be booked alongside a service or MOT.
  • Paint correction, ceramic coating and paint protection film: Meridian Auto Care and Enhanced Detailing both offer the full correction-and-coating menu, though neither publishes a certification beyond the services themselves.

Six of the 21 businesses here show a Google rating, each linked to the business's own Google Maps listing with at least three reviews; the other 15 have no profile on an independent source this directory can verify and link to (Google Maps, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp), so no star rating is shown against them. For those, ask to see reviews directly, or ask the business how long it has been trading, rather than judging by review counts seen elsewhere.

Where coverage is thin

Deptford & New Cross has just one confirmed business, Greenwich Car Spa, and Bermondsey & Rotherhithe also has just one, Bellissimoto, so choice is far more limited there than in Camberwell & Peckham or Dulwich & Forest Hill, which have four each. If you're in one of the thinner areas, it's worth asking a mobile valeter based in a neighbouring area, such as one of the Woolwich, Walworth or Forest Hill operators above, whether they cover your postcode.

Questions worth asking before you book

  • Is this a dedicated detailing studio, a garage that also valets, a fixed hand car wash yard, or a mobile operator, and does that match what you actually want done?
  • If it's a hand car wash yard: is it walk-in, or does it get busy at particular times of day?
  • If it's mobile: does the valeter bring their own water and power, and do they cover your exact postcode?
  • Several listings here rest on a single online listing rather than the business's own website – Go Car Wash Charlton, Ocontinental, Robin Hood Car Service Centre, Auto-Wash, D C Valeting, Treat My Car, Car Tec and both Professional Car Cleaning businesses among them. Ring first to check the business is still trading at the address given before you make a special trip.
  • Is the price you're quoted for a wash and protect, or does it include machine paint correction first? Correction takes longer and costs more than a wash, and a coating over unaddressed swirls will not look any better than the paint underneath.
