How to choose a car detailer or valeter in Guildford
Fixed workshop, mobile, or hand car wash
Guildford and the surrounding Surrey and north Hampshire towns covered here have a mix of all three, but mobile is the largest single group: 15 of the 39 businesses come to your driveway or workplace, against 24 based at a fixed address. Coverage by area is uneven. Guildford town centre, Burpham & Merrow and Farnham each have 4 confirmed businesses, Godalming has 5, and Aldershot & Farnborough and Camberley & Frimley are the largest groups at 10 and 8. Woking and Cranleigh are thin: each has only two confirmed businesses (Unified Detailing Ltd and Jewell Autovalet in Woking; Ultra Shine and Bob S in Cranleigh), so choice there is genuinely limited rather than just under-researched, and a mobile operator based in a neighbouring area may be worth asking about coverage.
- Fixed workshops and valeting centres take the car off the road for a while and suit a full valet, paint correction or coating: Smart Shine Car Valeting Centre on Southway, TCS Valeting & Detailing on Banks Way, All That Gleams at Chilworth, Unified Detailing Ltd's studio on Wych Hill in Woking, and West Heath Garage in Farnborough, which runs valeting alongside its main business of car repairs and MOTs.
- Mobile detailers and valeters come to you: SMC Detailing, Perfect Valet Limited and Mobile Valeting Services around Guildford; Pro-Touch Detailing, covering Godalming, Guildford, Woking and Farnham from one base; ZM Mobile Valet in Farnham; Mr Detailer and The Finer Detailer around Aldershot; and Beacon Valeting and Selective Detailing, both covering Camberley and several neighbouring Surrey and Hampshire towns from a single real base rather than a national booking site.
- Hand car wash with a valeting menu: Guildford Hand Car Wash & Valeting at Jacobs Well is the one fixed hand-wash site here that also lists waxing, polishing and upholstery and carpet cleaning beyond a plain wash; wash-only businesses with no valeting or detailing service were left out of this directory entirely.
What the credentials found here mean
None of these is a legal requirement to valet or detail a car, but each says something about the training or track record behind the work.
- Product or process certification: TCS Valeting & Detailing is ColourLock-certified for leather restoration and repair; All That Gleams is an Autoglym-certified operation; SMC Detailing uses Gtechniq-branded coating and polishing products for its ceramic coating work.
- Longer trading history: Smart Shine Car Valeting Centre for more than 25 years, Beacon Valeting for over 20 years, Unified Detailing Ltd for over 10 years, TCS Valeting & Detailing since 2019, Pro-Touch Detailing since 2020, and Mr Detailer since 2023.
- Independently verifiable ratings: none. No Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp review page could be independently confirmed for any of the 39 businesses in this round of research — Google Maps listings in particular could not be fetched directly this time. A later ratings pass covering several towns together is expected to fill this in; for now, ask a business directly what feedback it can show you.
A caution on directory-only listings
26 of the 39 businesses here have no independent website: the record is a name, address and phone number found on an online listing rather than pages the business runs itself. This is most common in Aldershot & Farnborough (7 of 10 businesses) and Camberley & Frimley (6 of 8), but it appears in every area, including both Woking businesses' near-neighbour Jewell Autovalet and one of Cranleigh's two entries. It does not mean the business is not trading, only that nothing beyond the listing has been checked. Ring first to confirm the business is still operating, at that address and number, before assuming the listing is current, and note that two pairs of businesses here (Valet Team and Dream Detail in Farnham; Jason Walker Valeting under two addresses in Camberley) share contact details closely enough that a quick check of which is current is worthwhile.
Questions worth asking before you book
- Fixed premises or mobile — and if mobile, does the detailer bring their own water and power, or do they need yours?
- Is the quote for a wash and valet, or does it include machine paint correction first? A coating over unclipped swirls will not look any better than the paint underneath it.
- For a business with no independent website: is it still trading at the address and number found, and what exactly does its standard valet include?
- If you are in Woking or Cranleigh, ask a Guildford, Godalming or Farnham-based mobile operator directly whether they reach you, given how few businesses are confirmed in those two areas.
