How to choose a detailer or valeter in Preston

Preston's car detailing and valeting businesses spread across eight areas: Preston city centre, Fulwood, Penwortham and Lostock Hall, Bamber Bridge and Leyland, Chorley, Kirkham and Wesham, Garstang, and Blackpool. Coverage is uneven: Preston centre, Fulwood, Penwortham and Lostock Hall, and Kirkham and Wesham each have a small handful of confirmed businesses, Bamber Bridge and Leyland and Blackpool have the most at seven each, and Garstang has none confirmed at all, so anyone in or near Garstang will need to call a business based in a neighbouring area and ask whether it travels that far.

What the credentials found here mean

None of these is a legal requirement to detail a car, but each shows something about the training or track record behind the work.

  • Angelwax accredited: Remyroc Detailing, trading in Bamber Bridge since 2012 and saying it works with local and national dealerships.
  • Gtechniq accredited: The Detailing Shack, run by lead detailer Rob, who says he has over 16 years in the trade.
  • Dealership work: Lancs Detail says it provides mobile detailing to Porsche and Audi franchises, and Eclipse Valeting and Detailing says it partners with the Volkswagen Van Centre in Preston.
  • Training completed: MotorShine's owner Glenn has completed the AutoBead 'Detail Like a Pro' foundation course.
  • Independently verifiable ratings: none. No business in this town carries a rating from an allowed independent review source with a working link, so there is nothing to compare here yet; ask to see reviews directly when you call.

Questions worth asking before you book

  • Fixed premises or mobile - and if mobile, does the detailer bring their own water and power, or do they need yours?
  • Is the quote for a wash and protect, or does it include machine paint correction first? Correction takes longer and costs more, and a coating over unclipped swirls will not look any better than the paint underneath.
  • Many of the smaller listings in this town, including Tony S, Crystal Clean and most of the Kirkham and Blackpool entries, are confirmed only by a single local directory rather than the business's own website. Ring first to check the business is still trading and current before assuming the listing is accurate.
  • If you are in Garstang or one of the smaller areas, ask a Preston, Chorley or Blackpool-based mobile operator directly whether they cover your postcode before booking, since no business based in Garstang itself could be confirmed for this directory.
