How to choose a detailer or valeter in Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington

A customer stands at the open shutter of a detailing unit, arms folded and smiling, watching a detailer polish a red car inside

Studio, fixed yard, or mobile

Of the 28 businesses covered here, 18 are mobile call-out valeters and detailers, and 10 work from a fixed site. Only two are dedicated detailing studios rather than a wash-and-valet yard: Yorkshire Coast Valeting, working from a climate-controlled unit and appointment-only, and Paddock Ten Detailing in Eastfield, a Gtechniq-accredited studio run alongside a wider paintwork and storage business. The rest of the fixed sites – Diamond Shines Mobile Car Valeting, A1 Auto Valeting, Auto Valet, Limitless Valeting And Detailing Ltd, West End Hand Car Wash, Wash N Shine, Spic and Spanners Mobile Car Valeting and Bridlington Hand Car Wash – are hand wash and valeting yards you take the car to, priced on the day. The mobile operators come to you, from long-established rounds like Matty's Mobile Valeting & Detailing (trading since 2004) and Chanayda Mobile Valeting, to smaller single-van businesses such as JJ Valeting, Smart Car Care and Really Clean Cars.

Ratings

7 of the 28 detailers and valeters listed here show a Google rating, taken from the business's own Google profile and linked from the listing; the others have no rating from a source this directory can link to. This directory only shows a rating linked to a business's own profile on Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp, with at least three reviews behind it, confirmed by visiting that page directly – never a figure copied from a general search result or another directory. That check hadn't turned up a qualifying link for any Scarborough, Whitby or Bridlington business by the time this guide was written, so ask to see reviews directly, or ask how long a business has been trading, rather than judging by a number seen on a search results page.

Where coverage is thin

Scarborough town itself has the most choice, with 13 businesses, followed by Bridlington with 6 and Whitby and Filey with 4 each. Scarborough's outlying villages – Scalby, Burniston, Cloughton, Hackness and Ravenscar – have only one confirmed business based there, Really Clean Cars on Stone Quarry Road; a search for village-based operators otherwise turned up nothing beyond Scarborough-based mobile rounds that happen to cover the villages in passing. If you live in one of those villages, it's worth asking a Scarborough-based mobile valeter, several of which are listed above, whether they reach you, alongside calling Really Clean Cars directly.

Questions worth asking before you book

  • Studio, fixed hand wash yard, or mobile – and does that match what you actually want done, whether that's a quick wash or paint correction?
  • If it's mobile: does the valeter bring their own water and power, and do they cover your exact postcode? Several, including Matty's Mobile Valeting & Detailing, Chanayda Mobile Valeting and Spic and Spanners Mobile Car Valeting, cover more than one of these towns from a single base, so check which side of the district they can reach on the day you want.
  • Matty's Mobile Valeting & Detailing and Auto Elixir each have two addresses recorded across different sources; confirm the current one by phone before you book, rather than assuming the address shown here is where the van sets off from today.
  • Several listings here rest on a single directory entry rather than the business's own website – Daniel S Car Cleaning Service, Shine Machine, Valet All, As Solutions Detailing and Ns Valeting among them. Ring first to check the business is still trading at the number given.
  • Is the price you're quoted for a wash and protect, or does it include machine paint correction first? Correction takes longer and costs more than a wash, and a coating over unaddressed swirls will not look any better than the paint underneath.
