How to choose a detailer or valeter in York

York's twenty-one businesses spread across the city centre and Heworth, Acomb, Clifton, Fulford, Haxby, Huntington and Dringhouses, with York city centre, Heworth & Tang Hall the best served at seven. Coverage is uneven: Dringhouses & Woodthorpe has one confirmed business, Fulford & Heslington and Haxby & Wigginton have two each, and Tadcaster has none confirmed by phone in this research round, though several mobile businesses based elsewhere in the city, including Outkast Detailing, which runs a dedicated Tadcaster coverage page on its own site, travel out to it - worth asking when you call whether a mobile operator based in the centre reaches you.

What the credentials found here mean

None of these is a legal requirement to detail a car, but each shows something about the training or track record behind the work.

  • Trade certification: Kaizen Car Care is billed as York's first International Detailing Association Certified and Skills Validated Detailer and North Yorkshire's only Infinity Wax certified mobile ceramic installer; Forza Performance describes itself as North Yorkshire's only Gtechniq-accredited specialist and an XPEL factory-trained Paint Protection Film installer.
  • Companies House registration: Forza Performance Ltd, incorporated 18 May 2024, rebranded from GT Detail.
  • Longer trading history: Kleen Kar has traded close to 25 years, moving from Foss Islands Road to its current Layerthorpe site, with valeters described as having 15 to 20+ years of experience.
  • Independently verifiable ratings: 11 of the 21 businesses in this directory now carry a Google rating, linked to the original review page next to their name and checked in September 2026, led by Acomb Hand Car Wash (314 reviews, 4.6), Silk Car Valeting (293 reviews, 4.6) and Kleen Kar (191 reviews, 4.7). Eco Car Valeting now has a confirmed Google profile too, at 5.0 stars, but with only two reviews it falls short of the three this directory needs before showing a rating. The other 10 have none we could verify, so ask to see reviews directly rather than relying on the number alone.

Questions worth asking before you book

  • Fixed premises or mobile - and if mobile, does the detailer bring their own water and power, or do they need yours?
  • Is the quote for a wash and protect, or does it include machine paint correction first? Optic Detail Co's own price list shows the gap this makes: an £80 standard valet against a £150 detailed full valet or £300 for polishing with ceramic coating.
  • For a hand car wash: is it walk-in, or do you need to book ahead, and does it also handle interior valeting or wash only?
  • Several listings here rest on a single directory entry rather than the business's own website - C.A. Valeting, R C Car Valeting, Grafters Valeting Service, Reflection Mobile Car Valeting, Autosheen and Concept Cleaning Solutions among them. Ring first to check the business is still trading and current before assuming the listing is accurate.
  • MYNT Detail and C.A. Valeting share a Huntington unit address, and Valet Burg and Silk Car Valeting share a Haxby & Wigginton one; each trades under its own name and number, but it's worth confirming which business you're booking when you call.
  • If you're in Dringhouses & Woodthorpe or Tadcaster, where coverage is thinnest, ask a York-based mobile operator directly whether they reach your postcode before booking.
